Lunch time thoughts

Its been a while – probably should trademark this statement at some point.

Not sure why I will want to continue with this site, but you know, old habits and all that. Either that or, its most likely I’ve fallen for the vanity of having my own domains, for which I will need to pay around $200 a year for the honor.

I’m not that young anymore. I’m 36 years old now. It feels as if the best part of my life has passed me by and time is moving way too fast. I should probably add more things to do besides just sitting about playing games and stuff. Even the daily journaling habit fell by the wayside.

Got a new job for which I started on my birthday. I didn’t expect to get the role but the approval process was quick. I get a new start somewhere, that’s good. Get to start fresh on a clean slate. Its a sole IT guy position role. I’m still within the 3 months of probation, so many things can happen. Best to hope for the best and to do my best. A ton of work awaits me, just need manage it properly.

So yeah, a real quick one. One-third of the year is done. I’m gonna start writing regularly, eventually.

Goodbye 2023.. Hello 2024

Don’t fall for negativity. I call 2024 the year of living dangerously. I will not be cowed into the corner once again. Need to get New beginnings and new challenges.

Problem is I’m not sure how to. What to do.

Anyway, happy new year.

The end of a chapter, and start of a new one.

Hi all. It’s been a while. There’s been many a distractions, and goals to hit.

Argentina won the Qatar Fifa World Cup in the wee hours of Monday morning. As a neutral, it has been a roller coaster of emotions and one hell of a ride. Argentina scored early with a Lionel Messi penalty and a good sequence of play that lead to the second goal by Angel Di Maria. France equalized with 2 goals by Kylian Mbappe and in the end, Argentina won on penalties. This match was a fitting end to what has been a roller-coaster of a tournament. Who would have predicted that Saudi Arabia could beat Argentina?

I had my 2nd round bout with Covid earlier in the World Cup period, from 19th to 25th November, leading to a few in my office asking me about the suspicious timing as the first match of Qatar kicked off on 21st November.

As one football tournament ends, a new one much closer to home is just starting today, with the first game of the AFF Cup kicking off in Jakarta. Not sure if I want to be following the games there. Lets see how things pan out.

I’ve not been updating lately. Been busy, which is good. Hope I could document it as I go on, but sometimes things don’t work the way it should, and we need to adjust accordingly.

Take care, and have a good year end break.

B-Day

Yeap

Happy Birthday to me. Just celebrated year 34 in all its glory.

..its not been the best of birthdays as I came down with covid. Got 5 days MC and had it extended with another 3 days. The whole family fell ill to it, my brother being the last to catch it. The rest of them had to Work From Home, while I went back to office. Well, according to MOH, as long as I test negative, I should be ok. Should be.

New year, 2022. Not sure what this year will bring me. Hopefully this year will be much better then the last. With the borders opening up, more people could now go on holidays. Batam will be opening up for tourist from Singapore. I hope more could open up as well.

I really should get better on my writing, at least improve my writing schedule. I told myself that I should get better hobbies in my life. Maybe a bit of self hosting should be fun. I got a whole bunch of older PCs that I could use as my home server to host a bunch of items. Gaming server, media servers, those should be a neat little project to keep me busy. I could setup a virtual PC to test it out and then setup the production later. Its just a tiny step towards being a better sysadmin. Problem is, it would feel just like work instead of being fun. Anyhow, just do it lah.

My data drive for my PC died recently. It must have been 4 years old at that point. It was a WD Blue 2TB HDD. I crammed it full of data, more then I could possibly use. Full of movies, music and games then I could ever play. Anyhow, I have since bought a replacement, a WD Black 6TB. I know, its overkill, especially since I have a 5TB WD passport still relatively unused. I will fill that up with junk eventually. I have tons of data to look through with the older passport drives and will need to test to make sure the files are ok.

Enough fussing about, time to get back to work.

String of Randos

Hi,

I’ve not been writing for some time.. and I’m stuck in a boring Teams call (much of which I am not the main audience).. So I thought, hey why not just go and do some blogging? So here I am.

I really like this new writing interface that WordPress has. Maybe its not really that new, but I’ve been stuck under a rock in a climate controlled Data Center somewhere, so yeah, I’m really out of touch with the changes in the IT world, especially in the SME space. SME side is kind of a wild wild west, which is kind of funny. If you’ve been in a huge company and then you moved on to a small company, it will give you a major headache. There will be a major adjustment period, lets just leave it at that.

Following up from the previous post, the Euros have ended, in the most silliest fashion possible. Star players missed the mark multiple times making the proud English nation look like a bunch of morons. Why give the ever so crucial spot kick to a bunch of noobs? Italy beat the home team on penalties, with many having a few choice words being lobbed at the 4 young players and the Manager.

On to other news, I’ve been keeping myself busy with work and there is a never-ending pile of it. Been reading a whole lot and jumping from one rabbit hole to the next. My new thing is to watch the S-League, or the creatively re-named Singapore Premier League. Its good fun watching it online from the comforts of your own home via YouTube and feeling like you are part of the action, with the “shaky cam” levels of production values and spectators with their eyes completely fixated on their phones to not give a damn about what is happening in front of them in the field. I don’t blame them though, even the commentators have to start taking about useless trivia just to keep themselves from snoring away during their live stream.

Thats it for now.

Euro Fever

Hi, it has been a while. The Euro is under way, and football is here to allow us to forget about the current miserable state of our world.

We have now reached the end of the group stage campaign. I’ve carefully crafted my leaves so that I will be able to watch the late night football matches. I’ve also bought a lifetime license for an IPTV app in order for me to watch the matches. I could watch cable TV stuff too, but I buy this specifically for football. I have a physical box in the living room but I want to be able to watch football while on the go or on my PC (using Bluestack).

So far the highest scoring “player” is OG (Own Goals), with 6 goals. The fact that the first game of the tournament was an own goal, sets the mood for the whole tournament.

Thats what I love about the Beautiful Game, its the way the game is played and the drama that each and every game has, be it a bad VAR call or a some other silly thing. This is why I lose sleep at night , all for the game and the drama that goes with it.

I’m kinda having buyers remorse when it comes to this site. Well, this time round, I wanna keep this live for as long as I can. Not gonna give it up so easily. I’m not sure on which direction I want to take this platform, like, do I set to blog weekly or as and when the inspiration strikes me? Probably I’ll need to think of the perspective audience as well. For now the main idea is that the blog will remain as a open concept brain dump site.. with a few minor categorizations and stuff like that.

Thats all I have for today. See you in the next post.

Hi

Its been a while. Welcome back, to a new domain, no less.

Lost my old domain. Should have not been so broke to have lost all access to my old domain. I didn’t even back up the site too, so all of my previous works are… poof.. gone. This is why I data hoard. Can’t trust the cloud, guys. Need to always have backups and backups of backups.
